Building on the success of previous one-off projects, Women & Theatre launched Word Lounge Theatre Company in 2018, working with disadvantaged young people in collaboration with Birmingham Hippodrome, The REP and MAC – Midlands Art Centre.
This unique youth theatre offered exciting opportunities for young people to work in different theatre buildings and create new work that responded to each venue’s wider artistic programme. This was a fantastic opportunity for the young people to work in different ways and was hugely supportive in helping young people gain varied skills and experiences. The young people also had the opportunity to attend professional shows and masterclasses.
Word Lounge Theatre Company will return in 2021!
Due to COVID-19 Word Lounge Theatre Company latest production, “The Differences Between Us” at Birmingham Hippodrome was cancelled. We’d like to share with you some of the incredible work the young people were working on. This video showcases some of the songs and poems created by the young people. We hope you enjoy.
