Women & Theatre are looking for a Support Artist to join our Word Lounge Theatre Company, a creative space for young people aged 13–17 who are care experienced, young carers, and/or have additional needs.

This is a brilliant opportunity for an artist who is interested in community theatre and working with young people, and who is keen to develop their practice in a supportive, collaborative environment.


About the Programme

Word Lounge Theatre Company is a 10 week programme running on Saturday mornings at the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), where a group of young people will work together to co-create an original piece of theatre.

The project will culminate in a public performance at MAC on Saturday 4th July.

At its heart, this programme is about:

  • Creating a safe, inclusive and joyful space
  • Supporting young people to express themselves creatively
  • Building confidence, connection and ownership over their stories

About the Role

As a Support Artist, you will:

  • Assist in the delivery of weekly workshops, sometimes leading on aspects
  • Support young people’s engagement, confidence and wellbeing
  • Contribute creatively to the devising process
  • Work collaboratively with the wider team
  • Perform alongside the young people where necessary
  • Assist with the set up of sessions, including but not limited to taking the register, organising the room weekly and liaising with MAC staff
  • Taking notes during the sessions in order to capture the young people’s ideas
  • Assist on production including costuming, design and tech

You’ll be working alongside:

  • Women & Theatre’s Associate Director – Vicky Pritchard
  • Women & Theatres core team
  • A team of experienced facilitators
  • Another Support Artist
  • A team of volunteers

Fee

  • £100 per session
