Women & Theatre are looking for volunteers to support our Word Lounge Theatre Company — a creative space for young people aged 13–17 who are care experienced, young carers, and/or have additional needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a supportive, creative environment, helping young people to build confidence, express themselves and create their own original theatre performance.


About the Programme

Word Lounge Theatre Company is a 10 week programme running on Saturday mornings, where participants will work together to co-create a brand new piece of theatre.

The project will culminate in a public performance at Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) on Saturday 4th July.


About the Role

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Support young people during workshops
  • Help create a safe, welcoming and inclusive space
  • Assist facilitators with activities and group work
  • Offer encouragement and practical support where needed

You’ll be part of a friendly team, working alongside:

  • Associate Director Vicky Pritchard
  • Experienced facilitators
  • Support Artists
  • Other volunteers

Who This Opportunity Is For

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Is interested in theatre, creativity or working with young people
  • Is kind, patient and a good listener
  • Enjoys being part of a team
  • Is reliable and able to commit to the programme

You don’t need prior theatre experience — just a willingness to get involved and support others.

We particularly welcome volunteers with lived experience or perspectives that reflect the communities we work with.

  • Session dates (10:00 – 13:30) April 25th / May 2nd, 9th, 16th, 30th / June 16th, 30th, 20th, 17th 
  • 3rd July (Tech rehearsal not mandatory) 
  • 4th July Performance day (10:00 – 16:00)
