Spring 2022: Spoken Word / Poetry at The Hub, Hazelwell

Women & Theatre are looking for 2 x volunteers to help with a project in spring 2022.

We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers living in Brandwood or neighbouring areas of south Birmingham.

The project:

Women & Theatre runs a Community Performance Club for older adults and carers in Brandwood and surrounding areas of south Birmingham. The club provides uplifting activities that encourage older adults and carers to be active, sociable, learn new skills and collaborate to create work that brings people together and strengthens community connections.

During 2020, the project has involved a series of Comedy Courses, which took place on Zoom. The courses proved to be a great way for people to get together, be creative, build confidence and make new friends. From spring 2021 courses have moved focus, to explore creative ways of developing drama over Zoom. In autumn 2021 we restarted in-person sessions The Hub, Hazelwell culminating in the Brandwood Pantomime which was performed on 14 December 2021 at the Hub. In Spring we plan to continue in person sessions at the Hub with a focus on Spoken Word and Poetry for a 9-week course, culminating in a sharing/ performance.

The role:

The volunteers will work alongside the creative team to support the older adults and carers taking part in the project. They will be expected to participate in all project sessions including planning and evaluation. This is a voluntary role and W&T will cover travel expenses?

Dates:

Weekly sessions: Tuesdays: 1, 8, 15 & 22 Feb & 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 March, 2pm – 4pm
