A series of community productions about women, girls and cricket.

In 2022, Women & Theatre will present a series of new community productions about women, girls, and cricket.

Celebrating the beauty of the sport itself, the piece will also explore women and girls’ lives, concerns, opportunities and aspirations, and represent experiences from across the Commonwealth.

Developed from research and performed by local women and girls, productions will take place at outdoor locations in Ward End, Edgbaston and Smethwick in May & June 2022, with final performances at MAC in July 2022. A standalone audio experience will be available via podcast and listening stations.

Community Cast – call out

We are looking for women & girls of all ages & backgrounds in Edgbaston, Ward End & Smethwick to be part of our cast.

We work in an inclusive and friendly way and very much want the experience to be uplifting and fun for all involved. No previous acting experience is necessary.

We are looking for women & girls of all ages & backgrounds to be part of our cast:

  • To rehearse & record sections of the soundtrack.
  • To rehearse & perform in the production (at an outdoor venue in one of the three areas)
  • To rehearse & perform as part of a larger community cast for flagship shows at Midlands Arts Centre.

Schedule:

We have broadly scheduled project activity, but also welcome your feedback about your availability, what you would like to do, and what the best times of day/ week are best for you.

w/c 24 & 31 January 2022 – We plan to have read-through sessions with people that want to join the community cast and allocate roles for the recorded sections. (1 or 2 in each area). We will have covid-safety measures in place for in-person work & may run some sessions on Zoom.

8, 10 & 15 February 2022 – Recording Days at Grosvenor Road Studios (Handsworth) – we will schedule recording times to suit people’s availability and provide travel as required.

Sessions in the studio will be fully covid risk assessed & involve social distancing & other measures.

We anticipate there will then be a bit of a break in activity – although may run sewing or craft sessions to help make items of set.

May – (Flexible) Live Rehearsals towards local shows (2 in a day) Edgbaston: 15 May 2022; Ward End: 29 May 2022; & Smethwick: 19 June 2022.
