Women & Theatre is looking for a woman volunteer to help with a project from February – April 2019.

The project
W&T are working with local women in Balsall Heath to create a new community performance that celebrates and examines women’s relationship with swimming and water. There will be a theatre piece, performed by community participants which will take place at Moseley Road Baths on 13 & 14 April 2019, in and around the pool (not all performers will be required to go into the water). The content of the performance and script, will be developed from research – inspired by the stories, experiences and memories of local women. We will undertake research activity during swimming sessions at the Baths and host research workshops promoted to wider groups of women alongside the delivery a series of outreach sessions in association with different community spaces.

The role

The volunteer will work alongside the creative team and be actively involved in research and development sessions, supporting participants and helping create, document and monitor work.  They will be line managed by W&T Lead Artist Practitioner.

Dates

Thursdays 7, 14, 21, 28 March & 4 April, 6-9pm – Rehearsals

Fridays 8, 15, 22, 29, March & 5 April, 10-1pm – Rehearsals

Saturday and Sunday 13 & 14 April – Performances

Depending on the availability of the availability of the appointed volunteers there may also be some office time and meetings in addition to the rehearsal and performance dates.

Please Note: Not all project dates are fixed, and we will endeavour to schedule around full team availability.  If you are interested and have some availability and flexibility, do get in touch.

What we need

We need volunteers who are committed, hard working, flexible, organised and good at teamwork. We are interested in hearing from women that would also be able to perform, including being in the water and able to swim. We are also open to applications from potential volunteers with a Stage Management / technical background. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and particularly those with a connection to Balsall Heath.

How to apply

If you are interested in applying, please send a short email by Thursday 7 February to Rosie Gunn, Project Coordinator at rosiegunn@womenandtheatre.co.uk, stating why you are interested, and any relevant experience.

We will invite shortlisted applicants to an informal interview on Wednesday 13 February 2019.
