Women & Theatre is about to begin the research phase of a new film project, which forms part of our Moving On programme.

Funded by Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, Moving On is a project co-delivered with care experienced young people, exploring important issues to do with the care system and care experience through creative and theatre-based work. We began work in January 2021, which led to the creation of a new piece of theatre addressing these topics, called Taking Steps which was at Birmingham Hippodrome in January 2022

Our next creative project will see the development of a collection of short films which will aim to help children in care prepare to leave care – as well as being relevant to any young person who is approaching living independently.

We would like to research with young people, to help shape these films and tell us what they would like to see in them. This could be things they’re excited about in relation to leaving care, things they’re worried about, or questions they want answered.

We will run drama-based research workshops at Birmingham Hippodrome. These sessions will be run by Women & Theatre, and will be full of fun, drama and creativity! They are also a great opportunity for young people to connect with other children in care, as well as our group of care experienced young people.

Saturday 26th March – Research Sessions

Workshop 1 – 10:30-12:30pm @ Birmingham Hippodrome

Workshop 2 – 2.00-4.00pm @ Birmingham Hippodrome

Other Sessions

We also aim to hold more research sessions, so if you can’t make this date please get in touch and we can arrange an alternative time to talk.

Research with Carers and Care Professionals

As part of this research process, we’d also love to speak with carers and professionals who work closely in this area, and support young people with their pathway planning.  Our research style is very informal – we are looking to have relaxed conversations, not formal interviews! These could happen in person, on the phone, or over Zoom/ MS Teams.

If you’d be interested in talking to us about your work with children in care, please do get in touch.
