Women & Theatre are looking for enthusiastic and supportive volunteers to work with us on an exciting theatre project taking place in autumn 2022.

We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers living in Brandwood or neighbouring areas of south Birmingham.

The project:

Women & Theatre runs a Community Performance Club for older adults and carers in Brandwood and surrounding areas of south Birmingham. The club provides uplifting activities that encourage older adults and carers to be active, sociable, learn new skills and collaborate to create performance work that brings people together and strengthens community connections.

The project is  a great way for people to get together, be creative, build confidence and make new friends. Over the last year, we have been working at The Hub, Hazelwell, with weekly activity culminating in different performance events: aBrandwood Pantomime   a Poetry & Spoken Word night, and an Evening of Monologues. For autumn 2022, our very popular pantomime returns! Participants will work with a professional team  to create, rehearse & perform the Brandwood Pantomime, at The Hub, Hazelwell on 13 December 2022.

The role:

The volunteers will work alongside the creative team to support the older adults and carers taking part in the project, and may potentially perform alongside participants in the final production. They will be expected to participate in all project sessions as well as  undertake planning and evaluation activity outside of sessions.

Women & Theatre aims to be responsive to Volunteers’ areas of interest (e.g. stage management or performance) and where possible will endeavour to offer tasks / specific roles to maximise the value of the experience for them.

This is a voluntary role and W&T will cover travel expenses.

Dates:

Weekly sessions: Tuesdays 20 & 27 September, 4, 11 October, 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 November and6 December
2-5pm session, plus time either side for planning/ debrief. There may be some additional typing up of notes outside of sessions.
