The project:
Women & Theatre is setting up a Community Performance Club for older adults and carers in the Brandwood area of Birmingham. The club will involve courses of 12 weekly sessions where participants work together to produce entertaining performance events for the local community. The project will begin with a Community Comedy Course at The Brandwood Centre, led by W&T’s Artistic Director Janice Connolly (aka Mrs Barbara Nice).

Future courses are likely to involve other art forms e.g. music, dance, theatre – as agreed through consultation.

W&T’s Community Performance Club will provide uplifting activities that encourage older people to be active, sociable, learn new skills and collaborate to deliver entertaining events that bring people together
and strengthen community connections. The courses and events aim to promote wellbeing and reduce isolation of older adults, carers and wider community members.

The role:
The volunteer will work alongside the creative team to support the older adults and carers taking part in the project. They will be expected to participate in all project sessions including planning and evaluation, and will be line managed by W&T Artistic Director, Janice Connolly.

Weekly sessions: Mondays: 13, 20 & 27 Jan, 3, 10, 17 & 24 Feb, and 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 March 2020, 3-5.30pm session plus time either side for set up/ pack up.

Performance Event: Monday 30 March 2020, 7.30-10pm (Times TBC)
Weekly sessions and the performance event will take place at The Brandwood Centre, 157 Allens Croft Rd, Birmingham B14 6RP. Additional planning activity (to be arranged) will take place at W&T premises, The Old Lodge, Uffculme, 50 Queensbridge Road, Birmingham, B13 8QY.

What we need:
We need someone who is committed, hard-working, flexible, organised, enjoys working in a team, and ideally someone who has some experience working with older adults. It would be useful if they also had the flexibility to do half a day a week project admin in the W&T office, Moseley.

How to apply:
If you are interested in applying, please send a short email to Jess Pearson, General Manager at jesspearson@womenandtheatre.co.uk, stating why you are interested, and any relevant experience. You also need to confirm that you are available for all the above session times. We will invite shortlisted applicants to an informal interview.
