Women & Theatre are excited to be running a series of free, friendly and accessible community performance courses for older adults and carers in association with Manningford Hall Community Centre, Druids Heath.

The club provides uplifting activities that encourage older adults and carers to be active, sociable, learn new skills and collaborate to create work that brings people together and strengthens community connections. The courses promote wellbeing and reduce isolation of older adults, carers and wider community members. We particularly target those at risk of social isolation or decline due to low physical activity levels or other health factors. We work with social workers and other professionals to refer participants to the course and also welcome self referrals. During 2020, the project involved a series of Comedy Courses, which took place on Zoom, led by W&T’s Artistic Director, Janice Connolly, the creative force behind Barbara Nice. The courses proved to be a great way for people to get together, be creative, build confidence and make new friends.

Since then courses have been in-person and have focused on different arts forms and performance styles including Spoken Word, Monologues and 2 Pantomimes!
