In 2020 Women & Theatre are excited to be running a series of free, friendly and accessible community performance courses for older adults and carers in association with the Brandwood Centre and The Hub, Hazelwell.
First up is our Community Comedy Course a free stand up comedy workshop with Janice Connolly the creator force behind Barbara Nice. During January – March 2020 the course was for people living in Brandwood and neighbouring areas will teach participants how to create their own stand up comedy routine. Culminating in a fun and friendly Community Comedy Night where students can share their routines with family and friends.
A third term of the Comedy Course begins in September, from Mon 21 September to Mon 23 November 2020 taking place online via Zoom. You will need a smart phone, tablet or computer and good internet connection. Please contact us if you’re unsure as a member of our team can help you get on Zoom.
W&T’s Community Performance Club provides uplifting activities that encourage older people to be active, sociable, learn new skills and collaborate to deliver entertaining events that bring people together and strengthen community connections. The courses promote wellbeing and reduce isolation of older adults, carers and wider community members. We will particularly target ingthose at risk of social isolation or decline due to low physical activity levels or other health factors. Future courses are likely to involve other art forms e.g. music, dance, theatre.
