An entertaining one woman show celebrating the highs and lows of your autumn years, exploring positive changes we can all make to our lifestyle, wellbeing and health.
Miss Ida is a retired nurse who has spent a lifetime passionately advocating for overall health and well-being. As she enters her autumn years, she’s deeply concerned about the healthcare disparities amongst elders particularly those in the African and Caribbean communities. Created from research with Black seniors, this compelling and humorous performance celebrates culture, provides health information about preventative care, diet and physical activity.
Created in partnership with the William Wilson Turner Foundation the play toured to venues across Birmingham and the Black Country in autumn 2024 and was a huge success with audiences, over 80% of audiences were from our target group of Black seniors with 20% saying this was their first time attending an arts or cultural event. With 74% of audiences saying Miss Ida had made them think about making small changes to their lifestyle.
“A funny and informative performance.” Audience Feedback
“Excellent writing and performance. Very Clear. In all my years working in the NHS as a nurse/HV/ and Health Promotion specialist, I became concerned about people being bombarded with ‘do this’ ‘don’t do this’ ‘eat this’ ‘don’t eat this’ with little of no acknowledgement of the barriers faced. This piece struck the perfect balance between giving advice (so much packed in) and advising the barriers/difficulties, and what is most exciting is the emphasis on collectivism getting together to share and talk. THAT IS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS = SUPPORT, ADVOCACY, ACTIVISM.” Audience Feedback
