Meet The Writers
Prime Time is comprised of three monologues created from research interviews with local women by three of Birmingham’s most exciting writers, Maeve Clarke, Rachael Mainwaring and Rochi Rampal.
Maeve Clarke – Playing It Safe
Maeve Clarke is a teacher and writer from Birmingham. She is a novelist, short-story writer and emerging playwright. Her first novel, ‘What Goes Round’, was published by Tindal Street Press. In 2016 she was shortlisted for WriteNow (Penguin Random House). She has written two educational readers, ‘Give us the Money’ and ‘The Real Deal’. ‘Sewing Flowers’, won first prize for flash fiction in the 2016 Creative Futures Literary Awards. She was a 2017/18 Arvon/Jerwood playwriting mentee (mentored by Tim Crouch). An extract of her play, ‘White Gold’, was published in the anthology ‘Midnight Listening’ in 2018. An extract of her second novel ‘Four Storeys’ is in the ‘Free Reads’ anthology published by TLC/AM. Heath.
Rachael Mainwaring – Time To Shine
Rachael Mainwaring is a Birmingham-based writer and theatre maker who studied Drama, English & Education at University of Birmingham. In 2018, Rachael was commissioned by The REP’s community theatre scheme Furnace, to work with two community groups to devise & produce performances over a 7 month period, culminating in ‘Our Feast’ which was presented in community settings. She was also part of The REP’s Write Away course during 2018 & her short play ‘Unsaid’ was performed as a rehearsed reading. In May 2019 Rachael’s play ‘Fat Cat’ was commissioned and performed by New Project Theatre at the Coventry Shop Front Theatre. Rachael is currently developing her play ‘Bright Places’, while on attachment with the REP’s Artistic development scheme, The Foundry.
Rochi Rampal – I’m All Right Jack
Rochi Rampal is a Birmingham based writer & actor. She creates and performs theatre regionally, nationally & internationally, and she has written & scripted theatre projects for BCT & So Festival (Life’s a Beach), Birmingham Literature Festival (Reliable Witness) Birmingham Young Rep (Birmingham From Above) BCT/Foursight Theatre (The Corner Shop), Black Country Touring/Birmingham REP (Eat!), Typ-Tap Festival/mac Productions (The Warrior Goddess). She co-wrote ‘Between the Two’ with Daniel Tyler which premiered in 2017 and toured nationally. She also wrote ‘Daily Bread’, a short story for West Midlands Readers’ Network.
